Monthly after-tax income over $13,000. Monthly loan payment of $1500. They've decided they'll never pay it off so do the minimum not to get sued. Insulting to all others who are struggling to pay back loans honestly and who really needed them to better their lives.

Or the entire system is broken so that some greedy universities and lenders can saddle entire generations with massive debt just to get rich

It works both ways. Blame on both sides

OUCH. But then again, it appears they are not even bothering to adjust their lifestyle to deal with the loan.

“It will keep growing through the 25-year life of the repayment plan until it reaches $2 million. That sum will be forgiven.” Glad my tax dollars are being put to good use. And they bought a 400k house. F this guy and his “used” Mercedes.

That's horrifying, but at least he and his wife could buy a home, a nice used car, go on vacations, and support a family in a decently comfortable lifestyle. For people who aren't dentists who have student loans, all of those things are difficult to impossible.

*grabs calculator* if he had paid the amount he makes above the median dentist on his loan, he could have paid off the loan before retirement, which implies that taking the loan didn’t have to have a negative return on investment

People outraged at the man's bad choice with schooling should read the article and be even more outraged at a family well off enough to own a house with a panoramic mountain view and a luxury car(even if it is used) are whining about their debt.

Didn't read article, just curious, who signed those loan documents? "Due to escalating tuition and easy credit [and Mike]." Fixed.
