This young lady was seen right on edge of a main road and in danger of been hit by cars and trucks. A number of concerned community members called WIRES and with help from the Macquarie Fields Fire Station 084 crew she was soon in care.

Helping birds after fire Tip #3 Provide shade. Shady bird baths, garden umbrellas, well watered shrubs all help heat stressed birds. See for more tips. 📷 Rainbow Lorikeets by Peter Waghorn

There continues to be weak and vulnerable animals requiring rescue that may be indirect victims of the fires. This Sugar glider was orphaned when his mother was sadly killed by a domestic pet. Try and keep domestic pets contained especially in areas impacte by fires.

69 fires contiune to burn in NSW with 20 to be contained. Firefighters have worked tirelessly to slow the spread of fire and build containment lines ahead of increased fire dangers. Hot and windy conditions are expected to return to many parts of NSW this week.

If you find an injured bird or other wildlife, carefully place it in a cardboard box or leave it undisturbed in a safe, quiet place and call your local wildlife care organisation such as or a vet. Keep pets away and resist cuddling or stroking it.

My first ever sighting of the little lorikeet (Parvipsitta pusilla). Shame it’s a dead one. Much of the wildlife that was displaced by fire in NSW is now tired, stressed and hungry
