A Harvard biostatistician and epidemiologist with expertise in infectious disease outbreaks, an Oxford epidemiologist who is among the world's top experts in immunology, and a Stanford physician and epidemiologist all walk into a bar...

Being masked up, and being locked down for so long, has caused us to look at each other differently. The sooner we get this economy back open, and the sooner we get these masks off and become human again, the sooner we may start treating each other like human beings again.

The CDC says to Zoom Thanksgiving this year: Yeah, no. The CDC has basically become EPA Inspector Walter Peck from Ghostbusters, or the town council from Footloose.

There's a full (blue) moon on October 31st, but CDC says to do a Zoom Halloween this year: In other news, we're handing out full-sized candy bars this year to trick-or-treaters.

If the state of Texas is not going to let bars, distilleries, wineries, live music venues, breweries, & others open up & make a living (& provide jobs), then is Texas going to make them whole for the taking? Tx must get out of the way / make them whole... or both.

Travis County remains in the more extreme "Stage 4" restrictions. It's now been 21 days of "Stage 3" numbers. These are criteria the Public Health authorities invented themselves. Now they're just ignoring them. Which means the Stages are completely arbitrary and meaningless.

Our two Kindergarten teachers are fantastic. Remote learning, however, is a complete disaster for little kids. It's time to get open in-person as soon as possible, especially for our younger students.

Quick verdict on Zoom Kindergarten after one day of school: there's no way this is going to work for our 5-year-old. D- Verdict on our Second Grade pod: five kids and a real, live teacher made homemade bread and butter together. So, awesome. A+ School needs to be in-person.

If I wear a mask for more than a couple of minutes, I have a headache for hours— sometimes even the rest of the day. I also feel lethargy and cloudiness for hours. Is it my deviated septum? Is there a particular mask type I should be using? I’ve tried all kinds.

Austin has now reported "Stage 3" numbers for fifteen days. It remains at the elevated "Stage 4" restriction level. Why? Because Austin's "Interim Health Authority," who also claimed 1,300 Austin kids would die if schools open in-person, says so.

When a statewide executive order is written so broadly as to accidentally allow this pointless theater, that order needs to be immediately re-written or rescinded. But what if it wasn't accidental? What if it was written specifically to allow Mayor Adler to close running trails?

I ignored the checkpoints. I kept running. Well, jogging. It's 100 degrees outside today, with Saharan Dust in the sky. Others ignored the checkpoints. It wasn't packed. It never is when it's this hot. But it's "the trail" we're talking about here. You can't close "the trail."

Parking areas near the trail were also barricaded. Because... "science," I guess? All of that outdoor transmission to and from runners is just really driving up the numbers. Or something.

On a figure eight run from MOPAC (Roberta Crenshaw Bridge) to 1st Street, with the Pfluger Pedestrian Bridge as the middle, I encountered six or seven checkpoints. Barricades. Signs. Teams of two people physically stepping in front of people and telling them the park is closed.

Governor Abbott's new orders apparently allow cities to close even very socially distanced, spread-out outdoor running trails people use for exercise. Because... "science," I guess?

The City of Austin has been champing at the bit for months, attempting at various points to close down trails, boat ramps, parks, greenbelts, and other outdoor spaces. Until now, Governor Abbott's various orders mostly prevented them from doing so.
