Medical tidbit: there are tests that can be run and resulted in the span of minutes to differentiate RSV from Covid (ran several yesterday), so anyone who speculates the increase in pediatric Covid cases are misdiagnosed RSV is someone whose opinion you can disregard.

(I would have thought this the kind of thing that wouldn’t need saying, but have now seen in more than once, and figured I may as well just put that out there.)

Really rather insulting to speculate that people like the infectious disease specialist speaking in this video can’t figure out which virus they’re treating.https://www.wwltv.com/mobile/article/news/health/coronavirus/childrens-hospitals-covid-louisiana-capacity-full/289-bc234f66-2ee8-43bb-99ea-853c4cd9528a …

One last thing: I have no motivation (to say nothing of those pesky ethics of mine) to overestimate the number of Covid cases/hospitalizations/deaths in my area, because the higher the count the more likely the restrictions, and I’ve grown fond of the idea of a return to normal.

Thank you for sharing your pediatric medical wisdom with us, always. Do you think the recent uptick in RSV cases has any correlation to Covid? Or is it simply an unfortunate but unrelated occurrence?

It’s because all the pediatric viral illness held in abeyance by the same measures that halted the spread of Covid are having a resurgence out of season now that people are circulating right now.

That doc is apparently a sports med doc who has mostly published on ultramarathons. Pretty absurd what people feel qualified to speculate on these days. Just recycling COVID denier arguments that docs overdiagnose COVID

I’m kind of done with this nonsense tbh. People do this then get covid and have the unmitigated gall to show up expecting us to save their asses while we are drowning in patients in part bc they refused to pay attention to reality.

Remember last winter when they were saying Covid was literally the flu? We tested TONS for influenza and there was absolutely none.
