I'm not an advocate for a rapid transition to single payer, but Parker is absolutely right about this. https://twitter.com/ParkerMolloy/status/1174290620489318402 …

I don't know of any system avoiding that. In Germany you can theoretically go to the doctor you chose but in any special cases you need waivers. You can't have always the drugs you are used to but have to take another brand if the public insurance makes a new deal. 1/

I sometimes fear that people have so high expectations in another system, they will be disappointed eventually. Universal healthcare is a necessity and public insurance probably is the way to go but it's not without faults and hardship.

The difficulty with that thread is that she doesn't realize that there are two classes of people that like their insuranve: folks that don't need it and organized labor. Organized labor is a foundation of the Democratic party and they like their hard-negotiated health care.

It may be representative of a sea change that nobody (except Biden) on the debate change is talking about this. Or it may be a rhetorical change that doesn't go anywhere in policy.

I have not changed insurance or doctor’s offices, but my primary care physician has changed 3 times in the last 2 years, completely out of my control. Anybody who thinks we can keep our doctors just because we stay on privatized insurance is foolish.
