That is outrageous. I must admit I’ve just had to look up the word and I am aghast. What century are we in?! I was referred to as a “geriatric mother” when I was 35 and the label hurt and was not relevant to the context.

Grrrr! Part of it is the dehumanising clinical language, which I could just about cope with if it weren’t for the sexism - in both our cases.

Yep! Those clinical letters commonly seem to use very odd and unnecessary language with lots of sexism. I was involved in an audit which involved reading hundreds of them and that was the main thing I wanted to write about... but it wasn’t within project scope.
