PSA: If you have updated to the bugged 2.19.66 Android beta update, I think it is not possible to get back your media in WhatsApp, even with a new update. However, media should still be saved in the SD Card, but there is no way to import them again.
If you have a backup of 2.19.65 and lower, uninstall WhatsApp, install 2.19.71 and restore your chat history from the backup, so media should appear again. If you haven't a backup, unfortunately I don't see new possibilities. If you found a workaround, please share it with us.
