I don't think we've fully reckoned with how the pandemic crystallized for people how much they hate their job. It's not just that people are lazy or don't want to get covid at work. They don't want to slowly kill themselves by wasting their life at a soul-sucking job.

I'm feeling this. I've been working at home since March last year and I'm just waiting for my backward-minded company to say "vacation's over! Everybody back!” There's no raise and no assortment of benefits they could offer me that would be better than just working at home.

the best thing companies can do to make jobs better is to give workers autonomy. Letting them choose where to work is such a no-brainer, free perk to boost autonomy. Companies that send everyone back to the office show they just don't get it.

I’m just straight up spoiled from working for myself for years. Even if I’ve scraped by... at least I had control over my time & that’s just something I’ve never really been willing to give up- going back now feels... more impossible as time goes on

Once you are free, it’s harder to go back to the amount of control companies expect to have over their workers’ time.
