Tomorrow is the 100 year anniversary of the discovery of insulin. In 1921, insulin’s discoverers sold its patent for $1 so insulin would be affordable to all. Today, a single vial of insulin that lasts me about a week is priced at $300+, only in the United States.

We should create a non-profit that can just make and sell it at cost. Struggling folks shouldn’t have to play “Your money or your life” every damn week.

There is actually a company working on this! I dont know the name but they are finding a new way to make insulin and are giving it away for very cheap or nothing (i can't remember but I think it was like 10 bucks at most most but more around 5-)

I think they give E.coli the gene to produce insulin and they extract it, but it’s the process of converting it into a safe product with known amounts that is safe to inject which is expensive, you’ll need expensive instrumentation for it

It's pretty cheep to produce at scale, and really not that hard to produce compared to many other pharmaceutical products, but the big Pharma folks in the US keep the price very high for their benefit.https://khn.org/news/americans-cross-border-into-mexico-to-buy-insulin-at-a-fraction-of-u-s-cost/ …
