Right, small nations actually care about the well being of their people. Empires care more about power and control (in the case of the US this involves starting endless wars that enrich the ruling class etc.). In smaller nations there is more a sense that everyone matters.
That they threw bankers in jail after the 2008 banking crash says all that needs to be said as far as I am concerned for a nation that has its values in the right place.
