I don’t expect American leftists to understand how benefitting from US imperialism and having internal class struggles aren’t mutually exclusive when they still believe statehood for US invaded colonies is a “progressive” stance.

They like to cosplay decolonization in their minds while actually still upholding the US as a paragon of civilization. We savages would be so lucky to be absorbed into the US of A and benefit from policies based on Nordic socialism. Obvs completely ignoring Scandinavian racism.

They will always function off American exceptionalism no matter how much theory they fucking read. They just CANNOT shake it. The inability to place anything in perspective through the lense of the global south is EMBARRASSING not to mention inherently revisionist

It’s why I have problems with people like Chomsky who reduce everything to an economic/labor argument without contextualizing racialized labor. They do the same w/ Puerto Rican citizenship. Yes, it’s true that PR was already on its path toward citizenship + (1/-)

and there were economic incentives to grant Puerto Rican citizens to further exploit their labor while simultaneously excluding them from the US economy. However, this doesn’t disregard the fact that the ability to use Puerto Rican soldiers as cannon fodder appealed to the US.

We can even bring up how the jones act benefits the US while Puerto Rico and Hawaii’s cost of living was raised exponentially. Is the delivery of goods to the US and the exclusivity of using US ships not a benefit for Americans & their workforce at the expense of colonized ppls?

You are absolutely right, and statehood will introduce wave after wave of gentrification and misery. It is incredible how many folks on the "left" hate capitalism but cling to US imperialism. They can't admit that a war machine literally created to oppress can't be reformed.
