the politics of Marvel movies are so crazy. in Civil War, the movie thinks Captain America is right that random superpeople should be able to just invade countries with no oversight; in Falcon and Winter Soldier, they think letting refugees from the Blip go home is...sorta bad?

The invasion element seems to dovetail pretty closely with US politics regarding war etc.

but they're not even...countries! they're literally just random individuals given world ending powers. it'd be like arguing that 10 random people who randomly had private nuclear arsenals shouldn't be subject to any oversight, we should just trust them

Isn't that pretty much how it works with nuclear arsenals? Theoretically there is a political chain of command etc., but they appoint random folks with the ability to launch world ending missiles.

Also given how crazy some of the folks who get into the POTUS are... you know who I am talking about, is it so different even with that chain of command? I mean anyone who talks about nuking a hurricane probably is even less reliable than Captain America...

trump had to get *millions of people* to vote for him to have that power. Iron Man...built a suit in a cave. Steve Rogers was injected with a serum. There are no checks and balances on any of them

Right, their only checks and balances are each other... but in practice it seems like the US real world situation is almost as bad.

There is something inherently problematic/fascist in superheros because of the "might makes right element". Alan Moore explores this issue a lot in The Watchmen. Who watches the watchers? (Arguably the greatest graphic novel of all time, though V for Vendetta is up there too)
