The fundamental conundrum of the Democratic Party is the threat to their worldview by changes to the status quo. A “strong Republican Party” is a known entity. Another party gaining power forces them to consider that their platform might not be the best option. Unthinkable.

Yeah, that’s what stymies me, the belief that industry can tame or moderate fascism. Not when cultural issues are constantly used to divide the masses. Industry has no meaningful answer to that.

Agreed. Also, "moderate fascism" is really just early fascism. That road always goes to the same destination. Fascism is mostly just a sign of late stage capitalism. The system needs to burn down and reboot. Folks become ever poorer and then some of them want to punch down.
