Genuine question: why are @PeoplesParty_US and @GreenPartyUS fighting for one another’s voters instead of building together?

The duopoly retains their complete political control because there is a real struggle for any alternative party to get substantial support. Alternative parties are all desperate for voters & will take them from wherever they can. It's a feature that helps the status quo.

But wouldn’t it be better for attaining power for them to work together, given their deeply similar ideologies? If they’re desperate for voters, why not combine voters?

Every party has its own internal power structure & people who think they are the ones best able to help the people etc. It is extremely difficult for leftish factions to combine forces. Not just egos get in the way but also differences in emphasis & goals.

Coalition building is something we have really emphasized, but you get a lot of suspicion and it's really hard to collaborate. Everyone is always trying to co-opt everyone else so it's tricky. What would be best would be some form of joint slates.

So all alternative parties support one candidate for each office in each location, but that would take a huge amount of communication between parties that often are disagreeing. Also, most of these parties are mostly volunteer and any coalition has risks along with rewards.

Decent Federalism Project uudelleentwiittasi California National Party (CNP)
This seems to be the key, which I’ve been speculating about on this feed for a while. This groupthink ego that says “we are the ones best able to help the people”. We are so frequently guilty of this on the left. It’s about public service, not “I’m the only one who can fix it.”https://twitter.com/Vote_CNP/status/1351624613827026947 …

Now
@vote_CNP is different, because you’ve got a targeted platform that isn’t well-represented by any other party. You can do cross-endorsement, like@justicedems or@BrandNew535. But for@GreenPartyUS and@PeoplesParty_US, eschewing coalition-building just doesn’t make sense.1 vastaus 0 uudelleentwiittausta 1 tykkäys -

Unless of course, as I’ve said, it’s all about egos, in which case it raises the concern (not the final judgment, but the concern), that they’re putting their personal ambitions ahead of the people they claim to want to serve with their (very similar) platforms.

We are open to endorsing anyone who supports our views. We have endorsed Dems and others in the past. Certainly we would consider endorsing a Green Party candidate, Libertarian, or People's Party etc.
