As a #womanofcolor, I understand that I am a target & anticipate the kind of racist and sexist attacks.
I understand that bigotry, oftentimes discourages people who look like me from engaging the political process and running for office
Instead, I chose to #persist. To fight.
I'm running so when a young girl of color looks at the faces of her reps, she sees at least one that looks like hers. I’m running so when that child looks toward their future, they know that they too belong in congressional committees, or wherever their dreams may take them. #GA7
These hateful messages don't bring me down. I will not fear words like being "purged". Instead, #motivate me to work harder for the young girl or boy who would otherwise be told to not dream. I‘ve never backed down from what's right when people are disenfranchised & I never will
