He was a samurai farmer and lost his home and mountain (apparently a status symbol) because of his gambling and had to move out of city of Hiroshima to find work.

My great great grandfather Hyakuroku apparently spent a little too much time gambling.

Although this wasn't so great for him or his family at the time I'm sure, those of you who know your Japanese/US history can understand why my family, including myself, would not exist if the family stayed in Hiroshima.
