I want to address something that hasn’t been sitting right with me. Although I’m proud to be mentioned in this article standing up for survivors, I want to discuss some comments made about me and some fellow grassroots challengers.https://www.thedailybeast.com/insurgent-democrats-say-we-believe-all-survivors …

“Few incumbent Democrats facing tough races are especially eager to wade into the charged environment around the Reade allegation. The most viable challengers, however, don’t appear to be either.”

The article emphasizes that multiple *female* challengers have supported Reade and notes their lack of viability compared to incumbents and male challengers. What is viability if we ignore who has the most small $, volunteers, social media presence and over a dozen endorsements?

Also, what the authors fail to understand is that many of us grassroots challengers have openly spoken out about our own experiences of sexual harassment or assault in the workplace. This has certainly influenced my own refusal to stay silent on this issue.

“The most responsible actors on the left are still trying to figure out what to say,” a progressive operative said. “There’s a lot to weigh. Popping off to score points online doesn’t necessarily befit the complexity of the issue, or the gravity of it.”

While this commenter remains anonymous, survivors of sexual assault dont have the luxury of hiding their identities. Consider that people-powered insurgents aren’t calculating how to “score points” but are running races authentic to their morals.

I believe and support survivors, and that has probably COST me some “political points” in my race. But I refuse to run as someone I’m not. I will always fight for everyone who has been silenced, oppressed and forgotten.
