Shamefully, people with disabilities, including mental disabilities have the highest unemployment rate of any cohort. And then if they do get a job they can’t have more than $2,000 in the bank or they lose benefits. There’s so much that should be done, but this is a good start.

I worked until my mind and body gave up. I now receive SSDI. If I didn't have someone to split rent with, I'd be homeless. More needs to be done. Being poor is already hard enough when you're able bodied.

Yes, we need to consider the fact that chronic illness may result in much higher cost of living, so that even those with disability benefits above the poverty level are still in poverty given their discretionary income.
