This is also why I advocate for nationalizing public transit, upgrading it, and making it free. Stop harassing poor people. Help people struggling to survive.

This is exceptionally painful, as just yesterday I heard @NYCMayor talk about how there just isn’t enough money to expedite necessary repairs for NYCHA tenants. At what point does spending for this exceed the cost of making the transit system completely free?

I mean if we add in the cost of imprisoning people, giving them a record, traumatizing them and making future employment even more difficult for them...

For sure! Tenants and former tenants should be hired in the highest positions within NYCHA. They know the communities better than anyone. But in the meantime this is also truly horrifying that they have to live in homes that are frankly dangerous.
