I've been to a lot of different places around the world - India, UK, France, Ireland, Sweden, UAE - and none of them have free public transit. We need to maintain public transit systems and they definitely need government funding, but they don't need to be free.

Get people working and make sure they are paid a living wage. Then they can pay for their own transit, whether train, bus, or car.
