It'd be better if he gave that money as *taxes*, because people can't brag about taxes or use them to influence policy.
And his giving to charities results in him owing less taxes to add salt to the wound. Percentage-wise, the non-billionaires give much more of their income to causes their care about and get zero articles written about them for doing so.

I wish one of them would care about fixing the pipes in Flint, but I'm equally squared that they'd take the opportunity to gentrify the place and put up luxury condos. CHARITY!

People forget that CEOs of major corporations often have some of the highest rates of sociopathy of any profession. Preventing lead poisoning of children with your billions of dollars requires decency and compassion. Billionaires don’t get that rich off of good ideas alone.
