/? No pics were allowed. The tour started with the correctional facility employees emphatically explaining how the allegations listed in the following article were untrue and/or remedied for over 20 minutes in a conference room which made me wary:https://www.nj.com/news/2019/02/stinking-spoiled-food-a-gun-left-in-the-bathroom-see-all-the-violations-found-at-nj-ice-detention-center.html …

/? My heart broke when we toured the “outside area” for detainees which is a square room within their dorm with caging instead of a wall the top so fresh air comes in. Apparently this is standard in many jails/prisons instead of actual outdoor rooms.

/? We met a young man being detained by ICE although he has been in the USA since he was 2. He was kind enough to demonstrate how to use tablets that allow detainees to make outgoing calls. He has to leave the only country he has ever known and go to Mexico very soon.

/5 Although on the tour we witnessed conditions better than the aforementioned article, I am left infuriated by the fact that we cage people for seeking a life in the USA. We criminalize being black and brown. We MUST
#abolishICE, give them $0, and FACILITATE legal immigration.Afficher cette discussion -
