I love having these convos! It is my personal belief that no human is illegal and healthcare is a human right. Even if undocumented immigrants receive quality healthcare, it will STILL be more affordable than it is now. Lemme tell you a story of why I feel this way

When I was living in Germany as a student, I got really sick and had to go to their urgent care. I was so sick and panicking about how much it will cost, knowing that if this happened in the USA and I weren’t insured I would have gone bankrupt

The clinic staff told me to go get treated and we’d figure out finances on the way out. On the way out they told me to pay them by staying healthy. Huh? nobody wants to profit off of me?

I have done lots of research on social democracies. I’ve calculated my taxes as if I were a German, and I would pay LESS there. Universal healthcare is more affordable for all because there is no middleman and people go to the doctor to prevent their conditions from worsening.

I also want to point out that literally anyone is welcome to use our broken healthcare system already. If they are uninsured and never pay, the costs are sometimes covered by something called “cost shifting” which means those with insurance get it mixed into their bills.

In summary we are already paying these costs, just a higher amount because we are ALSO paying for an entire industry to exist purely to make a profit off of sick people.
