This decision is meant to disenfranchise creators/channels by devaluing a superficial number, that is largely perceive to have high value. This further shows YouTube’s push towards corporations and a less creator friendly environment.

Eventually YouTube will become TV and individual people will be prohibited from uploading with approval from YouTube. YouTube’s audience would be quick to abandon the platform in such a case.

At this point, this is a balancing act for YouTube. They have two incongruous groups of content creators, individuals and corporations. YouTube is pushing towards corporations which offer more potential profit.

If YouTube continues marginalizing creators it will become indistinguishable from TV. Its primary audience will likely leave as the original content that made the site unique disappears.

Perhaps it may be Google and YouTube’s best interest to become more like TV. YouTube isn’t very profitable as a site and requires support from Google. A change ostracizing creators may be beneficial to Google.
