The people I met through nerd hobbies at school were the first ones to accept me when I came out. Who knew the people who had to hide card games or would get beaten up or their stuff stolen and tore up in front of them were the real bullies and bigots all along.

My experience too. Most often this segment was the single most marginalized group of people I can recall from high school years.

Yeah the huddled nerd table hiding in the corner trying to play a game in secret so that jerks don’t come and steal their shit were totally secret bullies the whole time. The computer lab lady was a cool and liked table top games and Fantasy stuff so all the nerds hid with her

My classroom was the safe haven until a bully vice principal decided tabletop games wasn't a valid club. Five years later one of the kids messengered me that he wouldn't be alive if it weren't for those lunchtimes.

Immensely stupid. And patently false to anyone with three working brain cells and any knowledge of geek culture pre-2012. I'm beginning to think, between the media and the entertainment industry, that the "gamer neck beard" stereotype doesn't actually and never has existed.

They want it all, man. Every last drop. Star Wars Star Trek Dr. Who Terminator RPG gaming Etc., ad infinitum They are the One True Saviors of Humanity and will not relent until we have all recognized their Amazing Greatness. Or something like that. Sure seem to be.

I wonder what'll happen when they actually try to SJW-ify the 40k universe. Will their heads explode at the sheer sexualisation? Will their jaws clench in fury that Space Marines can't be female? That the Emperor was a MAN!?

But they'll swear up and down they were totally into TTRPGs and most certainly are NOT hopping on the bandwagon now that it's more acceptable and commonplace to be a nerd. They were always excluded like we were at lunch tables and bullies for having the hobby. It's just a lie.
