Is it ok to put a th after the 17?
The only correct order for dates is: year, month, day (eg. 2018 Apr 17, or 2018.04.17). All other orders are an abomination.

what's wrong with DD/MM/YY ?

It has to do with sorting by values. When you sort DD/MM/YYYY you end up with all the firsts of each month/year together, all the second, third and so on. It results in out of order dates. Terrible.
