#COVID19 Truth is the Currency of Trust in Public Health. For those scientists involved in #SciComm who infantalizes the public by towing the establishment line that “masks don’t work”. Just admit that it was a supply issue. Be transparent. Earn the public’s trust back.

This model probably also assuming all or at least most mask wearers are using them correctly, right? Given how many people can't even understand shelter at home directives, this seems like a poor assumption. Incorrect usage can be worse than no use right?https://twitter.com/EpiKelley/status/1244087343792914432?s=19 …

Of course, but look at fig. 1b. Even poorly fitted N95 masks are
#BetterThanNothing. Don’t let the perfect be the enemy of the good. Those willing to wear masks are already self selected for those who heed advice. Infantalizing the public is paternalistic & borderline unethical. - Show replies

I'm a dental hygienist I'm 16 inches away from mouths all day long with aerosols coming from the patient's mouth for 30-45 min per patient. I haven't been sick in many years and most of my coworkers are rarely sick. It's anecdotal but I knew our masks and eye wear had a role

But all masks are out of stock so now what?

Find a sewing pattern online and make one. Leave the disposable ones for healthcare workers that must change between every patient contact or risk deaths.

It was wrong of medical professionals to lie about the efficacy of wearing masks. Dr’s & scientists should never lie—it will take a long time to earn people’s trust.

Just wondering if a mask's effectiveness owes anything to the mask making it impossible to touch your mouth or nose.
-
You shouldn’t be touching you face anyway. The eyes are the hardest for me.

That’s a model, bro. No conclusive evidence possible.

So were the sophisticated epi “models” projecting the exponential spread and rise in confirmed cases amd deaths. Were these “models” unhelpful? Every parameter that went into the model I showed was based on experimental data. See all the refs I meticulously curated in that fig.
