1. Simply sit with it. Stop trying to immediately correct/fix 2. Validate the person's feelings (it has been reported that this is one of their most effective methods of helping people. If memory serves me this is feedback from suicide hotlines)

And even through experience the people i hate hearing from the most were always the people trying to 'other people have it worse than you', "oh but youre so successful" me to death. Quite literally to death cause that shit makes me want to die more

This current round of depression had me putting up so many necessary boundaries I offended a lot of family members and friends when I frankly told them not to talk to me.

I acknowledge and appreciate people caring but i had to tell folks that their method of caring does not help me. At most it helps them allebiate their guilt or express their selfishness but it doesn't help me so i had to shut that shit down
