🔬Another way is by taking a macro shot of the TV’s subpixel structure... you can simply use your mobile phone. If the red, green and blue subpixels are arranged in a triangular fashion, then it’s QD-OLED. Otherwise, it’s WRGB OLED. (8/9)

🔦There are a few ways to tell if a Samsung OLED is using a QD-OLED panel or a WRGB OLED panel. The easiest way is by shining a light on the screen when the TV is off. If the screen turns grey when hit by light, then it’s QD-OLED. If it remains black, then it’s WRGB OLED. (7/9)

🤔But considering that LG Display will also be supplying 77-inch WRGB OLED panels to Samsung Electronics initially, consumers may face a situation where they won’t know if they’ll get a QD-OLED panel or a WRGB OLED panel if they buy a Samsung S90C OLED. (6/9)

🎰However, Samsung’s approach may herald the introduction of OLED panel lottery, at least as far as the S90C series is concerned. Of course, the 83-inch Samsung S90C will definitely be a WRGB OLED, since QD-OLED is not available in 83 inches. (5/9)

💰Also, because non-MLA WRGB OLED panels are generally cheaper than QD-OLED panels however slightly, selling WRGB OLEDs and QD-OLEDs within the same model range should generate more profit than creating a lower tier exclusively for WRGB OLED TVs. (4/9)

🔥This makes sense from Samsung’s point of view, as introducing a new model number specifically for WRGB OLED would divert attention away from the company’s more profitable Neo QLED Mini LED range, and highlight the screen size limitations of QD-OLED panels. (3/9)

📺The new 83" Samsung OLED TV uses a WRGB OLED panel, since QD-OLED panels top out at 77". Interestingly, it is classed under the same model range as the Samsung S90C, which means the company won’t be creating a new model range to differentiate between WRGB OLED & QD-OLED. (2/9)

You may have seen the 55" rollable OLED TV, but here's a miniature 18-inch rollable OLED that converts into a portable boombox, unveiled by LG Display at #DisplayWeek2023. Specced to hit 1000 nits at 1440p resolution & 18" screen size, so potentially MLA panel?

Spent a great afternoon at #AWEExpo press day. Since they're a trade distributor, I got to see some interesting solutions, e.g. the 97" LG G2 OLED on a stand instead of the usual wall-mount. Also spotted the new Panasonic MZ2000 (MLA) & MZ980 OLEDs before official launch in June.

Sony UK has announced the launch prices for some of the company's BRAVIA A80L OLED + variant models: 55": £2400 65": £3000 77": £4500 83": £5500 No word on the flagship A95L QD-OLED with Mediatek Pentonic 1000 SoC supporting 4K120 Dolby Vision, so likely a Q3'23 release.

I asked Samsung about the peak brightness & panel differences between the S95C & S90C QD-OLED. This is their reply: "The difference between the features on S95C & S90C is brightness level. We do not disclose detail information on parts (panel)."

Finally got around to using the Murideo SEVEN 8K generator with HDMI 2.1 to measure 4K@120Hz input lag, & the result is the same as 1080p@120 input lag obtained through the Leo Bodnar tester (HDMI 2.0), so upscaling from 1080p->2160p doesn't add any significant input lag at all.

The new Sony A95L is world's 1st QD-OLED to support 4K 120Hz Dolby Vision gaming, based on Mediatek Pentonic 1000 SoC. Available 2nd half of 2023. The step-down A80L is regular WRGB OLED, not MLA. No new 42" & 48" OLED model, so 2022's A90K carried over.

LG has finally admitted to using MLA technology within the "light control architecture" of its flagship G3 OLED ”in certain sizes”. Our guess would be the 55", 65" & 77" G3, as spotted at the LG Convention held at the beautiful stadium.

Samsung's ranking of its 2023 Neo QLED vs QD-OLED. The good news is that in Germany (where today's launch first look event is held), the Samsung S95C QD-OLED is definitely the company's top 4K TV this year.
