Get your teenagers to clean - we operated a rota system growing up to distribute daily household chores - and don’t force mostly low paid women to risk their health or even lives because that’s extremely selfish behaviour?

I have a twin sister and two elder brothers: we were all expected to do housework from the age of 11, using a daily rota system dividing up chores. I don't understand why teenagers cannot be expected to do this?

Be great if Owen addressed the reason most families have cleaners. Not lazy bitches “with time on their hands” or crap mothers who don’t draw up rotas for teenage kids. But men. Men don’t do their share. Instead of hating on women tell the dude bros to pick up a fucking mop.

Men should be shamed into doing their fair share of housework: couldn't agree more. But forcing largely low paid women - who also have to juggle their low paid work with unpaid household labour - to risk the health and even lives of themselves and their families is disgraceful.

Household cleaning is a luxury middle-class professionals can afford. Working class lives should not be imperilled because of the personal inconvenience suffered by the middle classes.

And economic circumstances that dictate both parents must work. AND Owen disingenuously pretending employers can’t have experienced pay cuts too AND that only rich people have cleaners. I don’t even have a cleaner, but his original tweet seems so obviously ridiculous.

You're really going to need to decide whether rich people are magically poor (and thus can't hire cleaners) or rich people can't vacuum and have to hire cleaners. You can't have it both ways.

Most families don't have cleaners. The reason you and all your wealthy friends have cleaners is because cleaning is tedious and physically demanding and you have enough disposable income to pay somebody else (usually a much poorer migrant) to do it.

Pulling the "women do so much unpaid domestic labor" while arguing why a well-off woman should be able to kill her literal domestic cleaner who is probably also a woman is the height of ironic lack of self-awareness.
