Here is my Saturday essay in @thetimes on the unregulated medical experiment on children which is puberty blockers. Quite rightly, a judicial review & government inquiry are about to scrutinise this.https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/comment/giving-puberty-blocker-to-trans-children-is-a-leap-into-the-unknown-x3g37sb7f …

A central force behind the medical transitioning of children is the charity Mermaids. As their submission to the Women & Equalities Committee shows here, they want to make it EASIER to prescribe these untested drugs to children. http://data.parliament.uk/writtenevidence/committeeevidence.svc/evidencedocument/women-and-equalities-committee/health-and-social-care-and-lgbt-communities/written/91159.html …

They want to hound out doctors from gender clinics who urge caution. They want GPs to prescribe puberty blockers without psychological assessment. Indeed they don't believe kids as young as 10 need to talk about underlying mental problems before being put on a medical pathway.pic.twitter.com/vmSAWf27lL

Companies like @Starbucks need to understand what Mermaids wants and believes. It is far from a benign, sparkly charity. It doesn't deserve a penny from public funds such as the National Lottery, nor from our pockets. ends.https://metro.co.uk/2020/02/04/starbucks-launches-powerful-campaign-support-trans-charity-mermaids-12179371/ …

These people have commercial gain and homophobia as their motivation. It's child abuse.

I think we tend to underplay the homophobia involved. The fact that it's perceived by certain societies to be more acceptable to be transgender than gay or lesbian is deeply troubling and much is driven by religious belief. This is a regressive, yet highly sophisticated, movement

I think most gps understand that there's no evidence to support mermaids approach, but they are still scared of the trans lobby. This is a scandal.

Thanks so much Janice for continuing to write on this in such an evidenced and measured way. I know from talking to local candidates in the general election that they read your work and it makes a real difference!
