in 4 photos: crowed hallways of people frustrated of not being able to enter FULL devroom, packed rooms and beer. For me, it was mostly seeing good friends, but I saw cool talks!

OMG! I didn't even start to write my slides nor to practice my talk and is tomorrow 😱 I'm at the airport... oh wait... I don't give any talk this year. Oh wow, that feeling! It's so strange to attend an event and have nothing to prepare! It's like I forgot something 🤔

Today's Python history lesson: Python took its control and data structures from ABC, its identifiers, strings and %-string formats from C, and its regular expressions from Perl. But its # comments (and #!) and -c command line flag came from the UNIX v7 shell.

The faulthandler maintenance was far from being free. In 10 years, I got zero “thank you” (and 0€), only bug reports :-) For the 3.2 release, I had to backport an additional change to fix Travis CI & fight against various Python 2 issues.

Each faulthandler release requires me to start my Windows VM, install 32-bit and 64-bit Python 2.7, install an old C compiler for Python 2.7, type manually commands to upload Windows binaries. Moreover, I have to fix some issues on Travis CI and many small boring tasks.

faulthandler 3.2 is the last version that I will release (for free). I maintained it for 10 years in my free time for the great pleasure of Python 2 users, but Python 2 is no longer supported upstream since 2020-01-01.

I released faulthandler 3.2 with fixes for Windows (ignore MSC and COM exceptions) and recent Intel CPUs (allocate larger stack for FPU state). It is a Python 2.7 backport of my faulthandler module which dumps the Python traceback on a crash:
