Until YouTube fixes this, I have to turn off community subtitle contributions. I can't moderate subtitles for languages that I don't speak, and I don't want people to waste their time on translations that won't then be published. I'm really sorry.https://twitter.com/TeamYouTube/status/1167562519931568128 …

I can't approve by default, as some prats submit unedited machine-translations just to get "credit" in the description. Without community moderation, I can't tell the difference between that and useful human translation. Not translating is better than having bad translations.

This is a really big accessibility and internationalisation issue, and I'm frustrated that YouTube's immediate solution is "block everything everywhere" and not "fix the spam filter that was supposed to be there". I hope this is just a stopgap, but I worry it'll become permanent.

If you have sent in a translation, it's not been deleted! When
@teamyoutube does fix community contributions, which is hopefully soon, it'll be available for community moderation again.5 replies 3 retweets 307 likesShow this thread
Maybe you could name one editor for each language? I could help with Spanish.
