If everything exists, then for existence rhetoric to not be trivial, it has to be reinterpreted as referring instead to local presence.
@preinfarction okay so here's an intuition. the four color theorem is true in all logically possible worlds or whatever, right
-
-
@preinfarction no wait. suppose for the sake of discussion that goldbach's conjecture is true in all logically possible worlds or whatever -
@preinfarction or i mean. suppose that it's true. so that something is true of all the even numbers greater than 2 -
@preinfarction then if i'm like. "is the number expressible as the sum of two primes" it's always "yes" -
@preinfarction but then Shmeinfarction comes in and says. oh so expressible as sum of two primes is a trivial concept -
@preinfarction it doesn't mean anything to say expressible as the sum of two primes. it's just saying it's an even number above 2 -
@preinfarction we must actually mean something else by expressible as the sum of two primes. maybe the primes have to be both the same -
@preinfarction i think that's bad and i think you think that's bad. but i'd have to think hard about whether existence is like that too -
@preinfarction in some relevant way. and i'd have to think hard about what the relevant ways are. and so on -
@preinfarction how does existence as causal proximity deal with when we're multiply embedded in a lot of things. for example -
@preinfarction i think normies think we're embedded in only one thing. because only the one thing exists -
@preinfarction or i mean, a very restricted set of things. like teleporter accident clones in a single physical spacetime -
@preinfarction so when normies say the other things we're embedded in don't exist, they don't mean aren't causally connected i think -
@preinfarction because then we'd still have to think about being embedded in them. what they mean is the other things actually don't exist -
@preinfarction saying everything exists is meaningful here -
@preinfarction if "exists" means "causally near", how do i label the thing that should make me act as if i'm partly embedded in a thing -
@preinfarction a thing that may not be causally near at all. anyway, whatever, i'm drunk and can't guarantee accurate opinions - 4 more replies
