Consider: 1) 1000s of grad students now understand e.g. GR better than Einstein ever did 2) making unis co-ed has probably pushed assortative mating into overdrive. I bet there are way more people alive now who are better at all the specific skills that modern science requires

mostly agree but then why aren't we making faster progress right now? i don't think it could be all because the problems are exponentially harder
