oumuamua being an alien spaceship doesn't make sense on any model of aliens that's consistent with the rest of what we know
i think mostly people don't realize the implication of huge number of stars per galaxy plus huge number of galaxies plus billions of years of time plus very loose limits to technology

I think most people don't realize the difficulty of searching that many stars for life, esp if we don't know what to expect. Sure there's the question of "Where are all the Von newman probes" but you don't need those to launch a solar sail.

Our society still isn't sure how to make a fully self replicating probe, but we have plenty of ideas on how to launch a solar sail. Evidence that one is easier than the other.
