You know what? I actually get super annoyed at most criticism of Final Fantasy XV. Yeah we get it snobby reviewer guy, there are literally missing plot elements. A five year old could see that you're not smart for bringing it up.
Also with Noctis, the player is guided into deriving their enjoyment out of the little things like campfire dinners and group selfies next to large rocks, because otherwise Noctis is never given a chance at happiness

Like he was just a prince on his way to his wedding and then the plot takes his home, his father, then his country, then his wife, then his car, AND THEN HIS LIFE. FFXV is a Job-esque beatdown of the poor guy and he hadn't really done anything but being born to deserve it.

So yeah the plot and stuff is a mess (Ardyn is one of FF's best tho), but FFXV's strength, the feelgood roadtrip, is also the single most core part to understanding its main character. This is all the happiness you and Noct are ever gonna get.

That's why there is an almost ridiculous level of detail put into Ignis' food, the fishing minigame, the arcade games at Kenny Crow's, etc. They have to be vivid; Noctis' life would be unbearable mundo depressionfest otherwise

Anyway i'm still upset and mad at myself because after I finished FFXV i was all "Man, screw messiah narratives that's too depressing. I'll go play something else. Ooh this Persona 3 game looks interesting!"
