If you're trying to be funny you'll say all sorts of stuff whether it's offensive, ridiculous, stupid, or whatever. The goal is the laugh. For people to demand political seriousness from a comedian, or try to shove a stick up everyone else's ass is incredibly annoying.

It's also annoying seeing comedians moving "the laugh" as a goal to the bottom of the pile in favor of politically motivated bullshit. You can tell when the main goal of a comedian is "the laugh" or political influence. Because the laughs are scarcer.

Imagine this phrase, "Ya know, anyone think women's rights are super overrated?" Completely different meanings (with delivery) when someone is trying to be funny and when someone is trying to make a serious political statement. Why does comedy need to be explained to comedians?

If you don't think the comedy is good then fine, a comedian just had a shitty set. But don't do this whole "muh white men" routine and try to bitch about cliche comedy like you aren't the definiton of cliche comedy critique nowadays.

I think this person was commenting on the quality of the comedy rather than the message. I generally like Louie but I have to admit that the "kids these days" routine is a little dry at this point, especially if it sounds cliche or out of touch.

I haven't seen whatever Louie set you're talking about. It seems Andy's issue is with older white comedians doing this routine, which makes it sound political to me. What if Chris Rock did a "boy howdy kids these days" routine? See what I mean?
-
I think he was referring to the "kids back in my day did jello shots, kids nowadays want to protest and identify as a place" which just sounded to me like cliche/hacky boomer humor. I suppose he mentioned him being white cuz it more fits the stereotype but idk

You know what the edgiest, most amazingly original form of comedy is? Small hands, orange, bad hair, weird speech pattern, old white man routines for 4-8 years ideal

To paraphrase Reginald D Hunter: "How can you watch a comedy show and not suspect that the motherfucker might be joking?"

My favorite is the self-appointed humor "expert" who "objectively" knows humor better than everyone. Usually says something like: "I'm fine with offensive jokes, as long as they're funny, but this person just isn't funny." If it wasn't funny then why were so many people laughing?
