I paid mine off early by working a second job and cutting back on my lifestyle.

They are having trouble finding affordable housing and high paying jobs. They need to eat so loans don't get paid.

It's the same reason why almost 40% are living with their families, the largest percentage since 1940.

That's what happens when you treat education like a business. Also, I'd like to read that memo that WSJ hasn't linked to.

- Vern - didn't you oppose lowering the student loans interest rates last year, even though the program runs a surplus?

I think you shouldn't balance the gov't budget on the backs of students through astronomical interest rates.

why did you oppose a bill that would lower interest rates?

Let students living on their own use their incomes. I live in a different state and can't get funding bc of parents income.

I make less than $30,000/yr but parents make double so i'm ineligible for government assistance and have to pay out of pocket.

My parents have no extra income to contribute after bills and catch-up retirement contributions.
