Er, you may be right. Looks like CBP/ICE are basically exempt from the 4th Amendment. All they have to do is suspect you (anyone anywhere) are not a citizen and all your rights vanish in a puff of smoke. So, yeah, this IS a police state.https://www.acslaw.org/expertforum/expanded-expedited-removal-can-fourth-amendment-border-exceptionalism-be-everywhere-now/ …

I've seen a figure, but can't remember exactly what it was, regarding the percentage of our population who technically live within 100 miles of a border. It's very high.

They removed the 100-mile restriction recently, it's 100% nationwide now, specifically because they wanted to target several cities further inland. :S

OMG.
You’re right, the federal government has essentially decided that no person anywhere in the US who comes into contact with CBP/ICE has 4th Amendment rights unless they say you do. They can detain you as long as they want, no judge, no nothing.https://www.acslaw.org/expertforum/expanded-expedited-removal-can-fourth-amendment-border-exceptionalism-be-everywhere-now/ … - Show replies

Yes. I’ve thought about this a lot. We drove from El Paso to Austin and back. There is permanent checkpoint east of El Paso.
