Maybe it was naive of me, but when the League was announced and the relative permanence of the contracts was touted, I thought a ton of stability would be introduced to the esport. Instead, teams can’t hold onto their players and coaches for five months, much less a full year...

I agree its tough for fan bases who grow to love individual players just as much as they love the team itself. Traditional sports have shown us though that this problem isn't going away. Its about money, and opportunities, sadly not how the fanbase feels about a certain player.

While youre making valid points, i think you can't really compare sports in this regard, fan interaction (streams, social media) is much more important in esports, on top of the fact that team size is way smaller in esports/overwatch compared to most sports.

The smaller team sizes and shorter lifespan of viability in the pro scene actually make it more likely for players to be traded/dropped, than traditional sports so looking for stability with a team and its players is going to continue to be rare.

Yeah agreed, i was talking more about how fanbase is much more important in esports, disregarding whether it has any effect on whether an org keeps the player or not. In sports its much more viable to keep players based on fanbase because of roster size as u said.

haha no worries man, I enjoy talking about this stuff and hearing other perspectives. I'm sure we will start to see "Dynasty" teams that have had the same lineup for multiple years in Overwatch, but I also think it will be very rare. Similar to the Optic team in Call of Duty.
