If you can afford a computer capable of running games in VR, you can probably afford Oculus Rift. Not that you should, of course.

I think that is the reason for current price of Oculus Rift. The limiting factor here is a computer needed, not the device itself.

Personally I've enjoyed HTC Vive way more than Oculus (no nausea and you can walk around in VR), but it is going to be even more expensive.
