Is it ok to comment on someone you’re interacting with wearing a mask improperly or not wearing a mask at all?!

It was the first time in 4 months anyone had asked me to remove my mask (i’ve purchased a lot of alcohol lol) & the store had a sign out front requiring masks. I genuinely thought she was joking until she said she wouldn’t sell me my wine if I didn’t.
do they have plastic covers at the checkout? In our grocery stores they installed big plastic screens at all the checkouts and blocked the spot where we usually park our cart next to it so we can put our stuff back in the cart, to force more distance
