In an ideal world you're right. However you have to consider that people practice the same drops for long periods of times, meaning If you change your drop to land on someone else you are inherently at a disadvantage. And even if you win the early game fight chances are 1/2

You are in a bad spot because you will need to waste time, heals and mats to fight the Player. All of which leads to you having to regain these resources tbrough more fights (again risk) or playing with bad resources.

I understand this yeah, it's all true, but isn't that also just playing fortnite? Is a competitive player supposed to be playing something that isn't FN? Current competitive FN plays nothing like the actual game everyone else plays, and you can't say that about any other esport.
