After oil painting last night I put my brushes & palettes into the sink to clean. I scrubbed them the best I could then left them soaking overnight so I could buy paint thinner for a proper cleaning the next day Today I got paint thinner & finished cleaning my brushes. a thread

My brushes took forever to get clean & in the process I got oil paint EVERYWHERE, I ruined a pair of dish gloves, a sponge & my steel wool. The worst part... my stainless steel sink was covered in paint that wouldn’t wash away or scrub away. I panicked.

I tried everything, I scrubbed paint thinner into the sink, I soaked it with hot soapy water, I prayed to cthulhu. I decided to google how to remove oil paint from a stainless steel sink & the internet suggested I could simply wipe it away with some cooking oil.

Looking over at my expensive bottle of olive oil I knew I couldn’t sacrifice it down the drain so I went hunting in the house for another oil I could use. The only other oil I had was a bottle of lavender massage oil for uhhh the bedroom, if you know what I mean....

I grab the oil, dump it into the sink & start wiping the sink with slick, lavender scented paper towels AND ITS WORKING! The paint is easily lifting off the surface of the sink so I continue to wipe everything that got paint on it w/ this sexy massage oil. Finally clean!

Glad it worked! Careful though with dumping oils into the sink as they can easily clog pipes. Could also try some high % alcohol next time :)

everything I read on the internet said paint thinner was the only way to get the paint out of the brushes. unless you’re talking about to get it off the sink?

Definitely could work, alcohol is lipophile (soluble in oil) aswell as hydrophile(soluble in water, so it doesnt clog up anything), the higher the % the better of course... worth a shot at least

Also found this, and some people who experimented using alcohol to thin their paint straight up. Obviously recommend rubbing alcohol if you wanna try that due to smell, lol. It's probably also way cheaper than paint thinner! http://prntscr.com/rf05zk
