Wow. Barcelona has declared a climate emergency that gets straight to the point: "The current economic model is based on endless growth, consumption & a permanent race for profit. This economic system threatens the ecological balance of our planet & has multiplied inequalities."

You know... my Chemistry Prof explained what scientists do the other day, he said that they base their arguments on facts, and that they have the burden on their shoulders to convince people using those facts. He also briefly mentioned climate change. 1/2

He said that there is no need to discuss whether it is real or not, we can just look at the facts. And these facts are measurable. You can look at the massive CO2 increase in the atmosphere. And we humans also know that amounts of CO2 in atmosphere is directly correlated to 1/x

Climate. Why you might ask? Well... Let me explain it to you. When light (not just visible, other wavelengths aswell) from the sun reaches the earth, most of it gets redirected by the magnetosphere. However what's most important is Infrared & visible light goes through. 2/x

Now, the ground of the earth absorbs some light, however everything that absorbs radiation(light) also discharges radiation. This means the Earth discharges light in the form of thermal radiation. Now, normally this thermal radiation would go back into space, HOWEVER 3/x

Greenhouse Gases such as CO2 among others absorb parts of this Thermal radiation, stopping it from escaping Earth, and therefore heating up the Earth. Now if you put 1+1 together, you can see that more CO2 leads to a warmer Earth. The results? Extreme Climate, melted Glaciers etc
