Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent say you can't think of esports as marketing. This is interesting to me, prior to hearing someone in such a strong position in gaming/esports say this I would assume most game developers would only use esports as a form of marketing and continued

relevancy. So the question is this, how do companies/developers take their game and create a sustainable business with their esport? How can they make their esport profitable outside of driving traffic towards their game? I think if more developers designed their esports for

the long run you might see a more successful "ecosystem" around their game and esport. The word ecosystem being use by Nicolo Laurent when explaining LoL esports. It definitely feels like Epic/Fortnite has esports tacked on rather than trying to create something sustainable.
