Seeing all great suggestions but another one that ended up being a bigger deal than I thought, yes bring cash, but also carry change. A lot of the bathrooms in restaurants have attendants who expect to be tipped. Some are agressive about it, some not.

Also re: bathrooms..... 99% of them require you to go downstairs to access. Don't wear heels. No need for them for this convention. Keep your ankles safe between those stairs and cobble stones!

Taxi drivers were my least favorite part of the experience. Even as someone who speaks a medium amount of German, most cabbies don't speak English, or if they do, refuse to speak it to you. I countered this by pulling up my destination address on my phone on maps to show them.

Also, if you are expensing cabs, ask for a receipt and learn how to say the phrase in German. Also, when you get tires of Kolsch, go here. The Corkonian https://yelp.to/qTKq/ePQZH7xhaZ

*tired And speaking of tired, you will be exhausted. This is by far the longest, most people, most walking, most talking convention I've ever worked. Stretch. Hydrate. Pack snacks for you because most dishes at restaurants have meat and your body is going to neeeed nutrients.

I'd even suggest walking more in the days leading up to gamescom so that your body isn't completely shocked. Also don't forget to visit the cathedral. It's beautiful. It's free. Have fun and be safe!!!

this thread x1000 Gamescom is SO MUCH bigger than any US con. It's beyond words huge. You could fit -several- Blizzcons inside. Ice water, or any non sparkling water, was hard to find. No AC. Much sweat.

Lol oh yeah. Still or tap water. Otherwise it'll be sparkling! Make sure you stock your room with plenty of water and then add 10 more bottles on top of that.

Drink tapwater, higher regulations than bottled water here, no need to buy tons of bottles :)

In my experience, some places did not offer tap water. It was bottled or sparkling (or beer lol). I’m fine with tap if it’s an option.

I was thinking more regarding "stocking the hotel room" just fill it up in the bathroom :P
