I've designed the interface to try and mimic the familiar feel of a non-linear video editor. As with all software, it'll always be a work-in-progress, and I welcome any and all feedback (and bug reports)! I hope to add new features and enhancements as my free time permits.

In case you missed its premiere last week -- I took part in a big collaboration between dozens of talented YouTube creators. The challenge: create a 60-second video essay on any topic. Honoured to have been a part of this project, be sure to check it out when you have a chance.

Figured I would look into alternative ways to support streamers after finding out that Twitch's payment processor Xsolla is run by a total sociopath (to say nothing of twitch/amazon itself ofc). This is the kind of quality results you get when you treat employees like cattle.

Twitch is becoming unwatchable for me. Smash-cutting to 3 consecutive, unskippable ads in the middle of VODs without any warning? The first was of a car crash victim and the audio wasn't normalized. From quiet VOD to blaring dramatic music over a woman's crying face. Abysmal UX.

at this point I'm convinced that Nintendo finally realized people were sick of them adding "NEW" to every hardware iteration, so this time they went with "OLDE" but someone made a typo along the way

Canada's national identity on the global stage has always been defined relative to the US. "Hey we didn't invade Iraq" "Hey we've got universal healthcare" "Hey we've got weed" Both countries were built on the back of genocide, Canada just has better PR

The fact that "trading" those tokens is such an active, engaging act (combat, vs clicking a menu option) helps a lot, as does the scaling - Big battles that use multiple weapons almost always yield good Ancient loot, powerful drops and/or multiple strong weapons themselves. (4/4)

And I get where that frustration comes from! It's valid to think of them as treasures; they're often presented that way. But I think the system works shockingly well considering the scope of the game and the amount of combat you do/weapons you end up burning through. (3/4)

I feel the latter was the devs' intent, and that if someone sees their flame greatsword or w/e less as "this awesome thing I earned" and more as "a token I will eventually trade for monster drops and more weapons", it helps a lot in lessening any frustration. (2/4)

Since I guess it's the big topic today, and I have some thoughts on it, here's my take on BotW's weapon durability: It boils down to an issue of perception - do you see the weapons as prized treasures, or tools/tokens to be exchanged for other items in their regular use? (1/4)

Think I might try streaming some Slay the Spire later tonight. See if streaming is something I might be interested in doing more regularly. Or if I'm any good at it.

My pal finally finished his ~90 min DK64 analysis. (Don't miss pt 2!) A 3-year undertaking for a 5-year series, it's a real thoughtful look at the game. My fingerprint's on it in a few places too, so it'd mean a lot to me if you checked it out.

Today, I proudly present an in-depth review and analysis of Donkey Kong 64! You know, in case you need more information to make an informed purchasing decision this upcoming 1999 holiday season. youtube.com/watch?v=NOvaOu

So I knew that finally finishing that DK64 video would feel good regardless as to how it turned out, but the immediate, incredibly warm reception has really been the icing on the cake. Thanks so much to everyone for the kind words!

LRT: Whatever led to the deletion of these articles, it's abject moral cowardice of the worst kind. Here's an archive of IGN's original post. web.archive.org/web/2021051520 It's nothing more than a call for aid for civilians. The only reason to delete it is sheer cruelty. Sickening.

So ecological arguments won't work to dissuade NFTs, and the only argument that might work ("it doesn't actually have any real value because you'll never get a preponderance of people to recognize a digital token as a form of ownership") *has* to be rejected on principle. Genius.

To admit that NFTs are flawed because they won't be recognized as an actual form of ownership is to admit that cryptocurrency is inherently flawed because no one will recognize your ownership of digital monopoly money, beyond their ability to someday trade it in for "real money".

This is why the most effective non-ecological argument against NFTs - the fact that any concept of ownership without widespread recognition or enforcement of ownership rights is **less than worthless** - is also ineffective.

It's honestly impressive how NFTs identified and exploited a real Achilles Heel in crypto/blockchain adherents -- an inability to admit any weakness of the applications of this technology. Its value is derived from full, mandatory consensus. You can't "sort of" believe in crypto.

A brief thread: NFTs have to be one of the most amazing confidence tricks/scams I've ever seen. I say this with the same kind of disapproving admiration someone might have for a slickly-executed bank heist, though NFTs are obviously a lot more destructive.

And while I'm living in dreamland, can we also make it so that purchases that are disallowed (and thus don't complete) don't count toward the "too many purchases" threshold for this? I've had to make at least *fifteen* attempts just to buy five games, so ofc it looks suspicious.

Hi all, it's time for my yearly "get mad at for their user-unfriendly inter-region gifting" tweet. If this restriction has to be a thing, can we please, at the very least, move the regional price difference check *before* the "write a nice message" step?
