As a CM with a fair number of South Asian constituents, and a South Asian myself, I can vouch that caste and caste discrimination are present and functioning in the greater Seattle area. This ordinance would not only impact Seattle, but the region at large, including Redmond.

Caste discrimination has no place in society anywhere in the world, including here in America. That is why some colleges and universities have banned it on campuses, and workers are fighting for their rights and their dignity in cases involving caste discrimination. 🧵

We’re facing an unprecedented hunger crisis in America. 26 million people, or 1 in 8 Americans, are going hungry. In the richest nation in the world, that’s unconscionable. Congress has the power to address this crisis. Why aren’t we doing it?

Trump is golfing, the Senate is on vacation, there is no COVID relief, food lines stretch for miles, 40,000,000 people face eviction, and Americans are dying in droves. Is this what they mean by American exceptionalism?

We must update the GMA to include climate action. Looking at you LD48 and LD45 leadership. You got this! 🌎💚🌳 @senpattykuderer #ClimateJusticeNow

If the GMA isn't updated this year, the next round of comprehensive plan updates won't be required to consider climate, housing affordability, or environmental justice...and those policies will be locked in for 8 years. Tell your reps that #WACantWait. futurewise.salsalabs.org/weekofactionem

Happy #TransAwarenessWeek! Trans friends, you’re beautiful and deserve more than just awareness that you’re intersectional, that your rights are human rights. You deserve more than just basic survival and kindness. You deserve the highest quality of life society has to offer. ❤️

112 co-sponsors of Medicare for All were on the ballot. All of them won. 98 co-sponsors of the Green New Deal were on the ballot. Only 1 lost. Supporting Medicare for All and the Green New Deal is not just good public policy. It is also good politics.

For those who weren’t paying attention, the Trump tax plan sunsets any savings for those in the lower brackets in 2021 but savings are maintained for those extreme high wage earners indefinitely. Just another way you were being gaslighted. #gaslight #BYEden #BuildBackBetter

The Trump campaign accidentally booking a press conference at something called Four Seasons Total Landscaping in Philadelphia instead of the Four Seasons hotel they intended is such a perfectly dysfunctional way for this to end. The writers really outdid themselves.

Yes, you should be uplifting Stacey Abrams & the incredible Black women across the country for their great organizing work. But ask yourself—were you silent when Breonna Taylor was murdered? Support & uplift Black women all the time. Not just when we labor for your own benefit.

Thank you to all who participated! To be clear, my intention of hosting this event was to have a 2-way dialogue with the community and the 2 min speaking limit and 1-way format was the decision of the Council President that Council was informed of last minute.

After the murders of #BreonnaTaylor and #GeorgeFloyd, I felt the Council & City needed to be proactive in listening to the community’s experiences and needs around equity, justice, and safety. I proposed a listening session that Council passed 7-0. Join us for that discussion:
